The Golden Rock Song of the Day - 7/9/2007

Today’s song is a bit of a random choice (I didn’t even know I made to 100 songs already!). From Juno Mak’s Chapel of Dawn (which I reviewed), it’s the first single - Road To Evil. Hopefully, it’s not indicative of any aspect of my life.

The Golden Rock Song of the Day - 7/8/2007

Today’s song is one of the more rare romantic efforts from Hong Kong band Beyond’s Paul Wong. From his second solo record Black and White, it’s his attempt as a Karaoke song. It’s “Leave Me.”

The Golden Rock Song of the Day - 7/7/2007

Today’s song of the day requires a little explanation, because it really belongs to two songs.

The first one, found on any compilation by the group The Stylistics, is “You Make Me Feel Brand New”

The second one, found in the compilation Slower is Better, it’s Bondy Chiu “Searching Happiness.”

Of course, you can just make things simple by just listening Justin Lo’s Headline News!

The Golden Rock Song of the Day - 7/6/2007

Today’s Song of the Day is a kind of a continuation from yesterday’s song, in that the song is by a French musical group. From the musical duo Air and their 2004 album Talkie Walkie, it’s “Cherry Blossom Girl”

The Golden Rock Song of the Day - 7/5/2007

Today’s song comes from Japanese artist Kahimi Karie, who does her best to imitate a genre mostly exclusive to French music known as “whisper singing.” The songs are usually a strange hybrid of bossa nova, jazz, and electronica, and for some reason, I really dig it. From her first album Larme de Crocodile (which I got at Tokyo Recohan), it’s “Tiny King Kong.”

The Golden Rock Song of the Day - 7/3/2007

Today’s Song of the Day is actually the first Japanese rap I have ever heard, and also the first track on their first widely released album. They are best described as Wu Tang Clan without the Chinese fetish. It’s pretty hard to find now, but from Nitro Microphone Underground, it’s “Nitro Microphone Underground.”

The Golden Rock Song of the Day - 7/2/2007

Continuing the unofficial Golden Rock summer series, today we have the Japanese rap/pop fusion group Ketsumeishi. I’ve been in love with these guys’ music since I checked out their Ketsu No Police album 4 2 years ago, when their single Sakura blew up the charts. So today’s song is their latest single “Mata Kimi Ni Aeru” (Able to Meet You Again).

Considering Yuri Ebihara showed up last week in the suntan lotion ad, it seems like I might have an unconscious crush on the girl. It’s not that hard to see why, though.

The Golden Rock Song of the Day - 7/1/2007

Today’s song of the day is inspired by Kanye West’s use of a Daft Punk song for his latest track “Sutosoga”…….ok, it’s “Stronger.” This is a Daft Punk song I liked more than the one Kanye sampled from, and that’s why it’s the song of the day. It originally appeared on their album Homework, but I myself have it on the soundtrack of The Saint, it’s “Da Funk.”

The music video is directed Michel Gondry.

The Golden Rock Song of the Day - 6/30/2007

This was supposed to be tomorrow’s Song of the Day, but my original choice for today’s song would only make sense under a news I’m reporting tomorrow. Plus, it’s July 1st in Hong Kong right now, so it would make sense anyway. I reported this song earlier in the week, but I thought it’s the appropriate time to play this. At least it ought to represent my political views. From Kay Lam and Friends, it’s Folk Guy’s Always With You

The Golden Rock Song of the Day - 6/29/2007

Today’s song comes in light of the news that ex-Zone vocalist Miyu going off to do her own solo thing. So today’s song is going to be the first Zone song I’ve ever heard. Now on their compilation album, it’s Zone’s “Secret Base ~ Kimi Ga Kureta Mono

And here is how I first discovered the song (stick with it, it gets really really good)
