Excellent action picture from Yuen Woo-Ping features Cynthia
Khan and Donnie Yen at their brawling best. They two play
Seattle cops who track an escaped suspect to Hong Kong and
get involved in stopping some dirty drug dealing and other
assorted cover-up crimes. It turns out that this suspect actually
witnessed a murder by a U.S. drug kingpin. Michael Wong is
dubbed heavily as their U.S. cohort, who’s entrusted with
bringing the witness back to the United States.
The fights in this film are top-notch.
Donnie Yen and Cynthia Khan are both terrific, with Yen edging
Khan due to the fact that he had no apparent stunt doubles.
Khan does some impressive stunts, but sometimes she looks
just a bit too muscular, if you get my meaning. Michael Wong
uses stunt doubles too, but it’s all forgivable, because damn
if these aren’t some of the best stunt doubles around. The
fact that people can actually walk after the beatings they
take in this movie are beyond me. Sure, the plot and story
aren’t given much attention, but this is a kung-fu fan’s dream.
In movies like these, just be glad that the plot doesn’t slow
the movie down. (Kozo 1998) |
