Mok and Maggie Siu enliven this otherwise routine racing drama
starring Dave Wong as the "Racing God." | |
                  | | Review by Kozo:
 | A few surprises dot this racing drama from director Cheung
Man, who used to specialize in crummy exploitation with buxom
babes. This time out, his babes are a bit more sophisticated:
Karen Mok and Maggie Siu. They’re the women in the life of
“Racing God” Fred Wong (Dave Wong), who falls from grace but
gets dragged back in. It seems old rival Weird (Moses Chan)
can’t get on with his life without racing Fred in a final
race, but Fred can’t bring himself to race again after his
wife died. Besides, he now has a bum leg so how can he race?
Meanwhile, stranger Suki (Karen Mok) shows up and finds herself
attracted to Fred, much to the dismay of his friend Kelly
(Maggie Siu). Of course, everything reaches a head
and soon Fred finds himself back in the game for a climactic
race that will determine who really is the “Racing God.” Yep,
it’s God of Gamblers with bikes, and the result is
an unoriginal yet entertaining little movie. As an actor,
Dave Wong himself doesn’t really do that much that’s noteworthy.
It’s Karen Mok and Maggie Siu who carry this picture, and
they do it well I might add. Not much of import happens here,
but the whole manages to be entertaining and without any real
                    pretension. (Kozo 2000)
