Review
by Kozo: |
A
wannabe UFO movie that fails at being even a passable relationship
comedy. Basically, a bunch of whiny HK residents go to Thailand
where they confront the issues of their yuppie lives. The film's
central story is a troubled marriage between Kathy Chow and Thomas
Lam. Sadly, she rejects the advances of Alex Fong, who plays a too-cool
chef hot for her. Despite his suave come-ons, she never truly warms
to him and instead seems to waffle about whether or not she'll ever
forgive her husband for attempting to stray. In retaliation (or
maybe boredom) Alex concocts a "Love Set" meal that manages
to bring all the film's plot threads to a close thanks to a magical
spell called: convenient plot device. *Sigh* Kathy Chow and Alex
Fong have become better actors since they made this film, though
that judgment may be a fault of the material. The other actors are
uniformly uninteresting, including Thomas Lam (of Black Cat),
who ranks as the most uncharismatic Chow Yun-Fat clone ever. UFO
has nothing to worry about. (Kozo 1998) |
