Review
by Kozo: |
Well-meaning
but ultimately useless and uninteresting drama about a blind fellow
(Andy Hui) who falls in love with a go-nowhere club girl (Josie
Ho). At first, she doesn't notice him but his kindness and decency
eventually attracts her. She falls for him, but unfortunately
he's caught in a self-loathing loop by then. Will love triumph
over hackneyed character issues?
As dramas go, this flick pushes
the necessary buttons but its inability to affect borders on the
criminal. Director Lee Bo-Cheung directs with the skill of a drunk
house painter. He should watch the dramas of Mabel Cheung, Ann
Hui, or Derek Yee if he hopes to produce something above-average.
Maybe his first smart move should be to select better material.
(Kozo 1998)
