The
first Erotic Ghost Story flick is a benchmark
of the erotic comedy/whatever genre.
Amy Yip is the primary spirit, but there are two others,
all of whom are seduced by Wu Tang (Tan Lap-Man), a
horny fellow if ever there was one. He’s an evil devil
who does the three spirits and dooms them to a hairy fate, so they retaliate with sorcery and plot
devices very similar to The Witches of Eastwick. Meanwhile,
all clothing is mysteriously absent. Also, someone
managed to bring masking tape to the past because it’s
featured on Amy Yip’s breasts in place of nipples.
Ah, the wonders of HK smut.
This film serves two purposes: it shows the folly of
existence, and it provides a lot of bumping and grinding
for the fans. A made-to-order example of a particular Hong Kong genre, Erotic Ghost Story is a complete success in that it does exactly what it's suppsed to do. Despite any thrashing I could apply to
this movie, it’s quite popular and absolutely should be, as it delivers the
goods (sex, skin, silliness) and then some. And even if one does not like this sort of film, we sholud give the filmmakers a credit for trying to muster a plot. (Kozo
