This sequel to the original Erotic Ghost Story is actually better than the first. The plot is standard
stuff: the evil demon Wu Tang returns and wants into
comely virgin Charine Chan. She has her sights set on
a muscular young hunk who drives the females crazy,
and must consummate her relationship with him to save
the universe. Or something like that.
What makes this exercise in
cinematic smut better than its peers is the presence
of Anthony Wong as Wu Tang. He sweats up a storm on
the screen while wearing a bizarre fright wig and white
pancake makeup. It’s like you’re watching a HK sex/horror
flick starring a Kabuki actor. HK fanboys are denied:
Amy Yip only has a cameo in this flick, and displays
nothing to ogle at.
Still, given the fact that
current Category 3 movies are utter pieces of garbage,
this early 90’s example of the genre is a definitive
masterpiece. Aside from having creative cinematography
and a strangely overwrought plot, this is the only one
of the three Erotic Ghost Story movies to hit
dizzyingly bizarre heights. Credit must be given. (Kozo

The original
Erotic Ghost Story boasted beautiful sets and
costumes, good acting by very attractive people, and
an engaging story. And its Witches of Eastwick-like
supernatural conclusion was very well executed and scary.
Erotic Ghost Story 2 dishonors the memory of
the original. This movie is absolutely pointless and
horrible. The story is nonexistent, the acting is atrocious,
the sex scenes have the air of a late night made-for-cable
movie, and the entire production looks like it has only
a fraction of the budget of the original.
Even Anthony Wong can't save
this mess. He parades around in kabuki make-up and does
nothing but make scary faces for the entire film (which
never seems to end.) The only interesting part of the
movie is a sex scene on a swing, and that was only engaging
because of the interesting sexual position the couple
is in. There's also an interesting underwater scene,
which was only interesting because the actors probably
had to hold their breath for a very long time. Amy Yip
(the most famous star of Erotic Ghost Story 1)
only has a cameo here, but it just serves as a reminder
of the superiority of the original. (Magicvoice 2002) |
