The Skinny: Occasionally interesting, but overall an unnecessary experience.
by Kozo:
Lots of social and political commentary spice up this benign comedy about an unemployed film extra (Alfred Cheung) who ends up being an extra in a Category 3 flick. While that sounds like a reasonable pitch considering HKs financial and employment crisis, the whole film falters underneath lackluster direction and average performances. Clearly, 80% of the cast appeared as a favor to Cheung, whos okay but has never been a performer that will bring us to the box office. An eerily similar plot device was handled much better in Lee Lik-Chee's King of Comedy with Stephen Chow. Granted, the films are totally different, but at least that film managed to be entertaining. This movie has amusing moments, but very few. (Kozo 1998)
