Iceman Cometh
Chinese: 急凍奇俠
Yuen Biao gives pot to Maggie Cheung
Year: 1989
Director: Clarence Fok Yiu-Leung
Producer: Johnny Mak Tong-Hung
Cast: Yuen Biao, Yuen Wah, Maggie Cheung Man-Yuk, Tsui Kam-Kong, Law Lan, Corey Yuen Kwai, Alvina Kong Yan-Yin, Ng Chi-Hung, Tai Bo, Sara Lee Lai-Yui, Walter Tso Tat-Wah, Anthony Wong Yiu-Ming
The Skinny: It's Eugene O'Neill, Hong Kong style! Not really, but this is an enjoyable Hong Kong film that contains the usual doses of action, comedy and bizarre shtick. Yuen Biao has always been one of Hong Kong Cinema's favorite sons—on this side of the pond, anyway.

Review
by Kozo:

This typical HK flick finds Yuen Biao as a Ming Dynasty Royal Guard who undertakes a mission to capture or destroy a former friend (Yuen Wah), who’s become a degenerate rapist/murderer. While tracking Wah, they both get thrown thrown through time by a magic Time Wheel, whereupon they get frozen in ice.

The two end up in 1989, where they go separate ways not knowing that the other survived, too. Wah becomes a criminal while Biao ends up getting taken in by a shady hooker (Maggie Cheung) who uses him to con her clients. She also employs him as her personal slave while he gets acclimated to life in the nineties. Naturally, there are tons of fish-out-of-water gags leading to that HK garden-variety shtick. Biao eventually realizes Wah is around and goes after him, but not before he realizes that he’s been used by Maggie, who he also happens to love.

This is a tolerably cheesy flick with some pretty good action and fights. The comedy is endearing at times, and it’s nice to see both Yuen Biao and Maggie Cheung having fun in a movie. This movie is not a classic, but it's pretty good for some mindless entertainment. At nearly two hours, it's a tad too long though. (Kozo 1996)
