After
the surprisingly excellent third Troublesome Night,
this average outing feels like a disappointment. |

Review
by Kozo: |
The
latest in Nam Yin and Herman Yau's comedy-horror series
takes us to the Philippines. As usual we hear three
ghost stories, except this time a tour from Hong Kong
is the vehicle for the frightfest. Louis Koo and Pauline
Suen are a newlywed couple who find their bliss interrupted
by a ghost that tests Koo's fidelity. Cheung Tat-Ming,
Simon Lui, and Lai Yiu-Cheung are three tourists out
to score with hookers, but spooky things make it difficult.
As usual, the scares are benign, with the acting and
structure meant to carry things. Things don’t totally
pan out, though. After the excellent third film, I’ve
come to expect more. (Kozo 1998)
