Review
by Kozo:
This cheap exploitation comedy lampoons the hot-button topic of Viagra (which sounds like Wai-Go in Cantonese). A trio of stories tells of the experiences men have with the new wonder drug. Anthony Wong is the Number One porn star in HK, who can’t get it up except for his dowdy wife (Yuen King-Tan). He's saddled with a love scene with buxom Karen Yeung Ka-Ling, but he needs help. Eric Tsang is a obscene caller who’s obsessed with a hot widow (Angie Cheung). Finally, Spencer Lam is an old coot who takes some Viagra out of curiosity and nearly fools around with the hot upstairs neighbor (Pinky Cheung).
This is a funny but low-brow flick with some clever moments that occasionally recall Woody Allen (i.e., talking sperm). Still, this is an Aman Cheung film we’re talking about. Cheung is fast becoming HK’s top exploitation director, though he’ll never be the top if he continues working in the shadow of supreme exploitation god Wong Jing. This is an amusing movie, but it ain’t a showstopper. (Kozo 1998)
