Review
by Kozo: |
This
grisly Category 3 thriller
is actually a worthy example of the genre. Danny Lee and Anthony
Wong play cop and psycho, but the movie isn’t about the chase.
Instead it’s about abused wife Elizabeth Lee, who flees into
hiding while nutty husband Wong tries to find her. The reason
for Wong’s psychosis is tied to a terrible childhood of being
beaten, but that isn’t what makes this thriller work. Instead
of opting for Raped by an Angel style cleverness, the
whole film is redeemed by a gritty performance by victim Elizabeth
Lee as well as the dependably creepy Anthony Wong. As usual,
Danny Lee is the loose cannon cop but he’s relegated to a
supporting role. He tries to play hero, but he’s not the guy
who has to stand up and be counted. When all’s said and done
it’s battered wife vs. abusive husband - which makes for an
extremely harrowing finish. Effectively shocking and gory,
it’s a worthy watch if you can stomach the stuff. (Kozo
