Anthology
triptych of ghost stories from those guys at BOB. There’s some mysterious
society that gets together to tell shocking stories. A reporter
goes to check it out and hears three such tales from directors Joe
Ma, Yip Wai-Man and Chin Man-Kei. Joe Ma’s story is the best, an
unoriginal but well-acted tale about a harried accountant (Cheung
Tat-Ming) who thinks he’s being haunted by the ghost of his evil
employer (Vincent Kok) in the form of luscious new boss Gigi Lai.
Story two is the least interesting of the three. It involves an
evil statue at a college that brings bad luck to a young med student
(John Tang) when he runs into the legendary Lotus Pond Ghost (Liz
Kong) that reportedly kills young students. The final story from
Yip Wai-Man is a little bizarre, but entertaining. It’s the story
of a model (Anita Yuen) who’s haunted by a roving ghost (Shu Qi)
looking to take over her life. The framing story has a final gag,
but it’s needlessly tasteless. Overall, this film is an amusing
diversion if nothing else is on and you find yourself absolutely
in need of some HK movie fix. And it's fine for fans of Anita Yuen,
Gigi Lai, or Cheung Tat-Ming, if that's your thing. (Kozo 1997) |
