20th
Annual Hong Kong Film Awards
|
|
|
The
20th HK Film Awards could also be called the "Crouching Tiger
Hidden Dragon Love-Fest". Echoing the film's Best Foreign Language
Film win at the Academy Awards, those in Hong Kong saw fit to bestow eight
awards on the film, though only Cheng Pei-Pei took home an acting award
(for Best Supporting Actress). In the Mood for Love took home five
awards, including three for William Cheung Suk-Ping, who probably needed
a shopping cart to haul home his booty. Tony Leung Chiu-Wai took home his
third Best Actor award (all three for Wong Kar-Wai movies), and Maggie Cheung
Man-Yuk took home her fifth for Best Actress. Francis Ng Chun-Yu won for
his brilliant work in 2000 A.D., which was the textbook definition
of a best supporting role. Even better, he won over Eason Chan Yik-Shun,
whose nomination (for Lavender) proves without a doubt that the HKFA
nominations are selected by a roomful of monkeys playing bingo. |
